HOW WE CREATE YOUR DREAM GARDEN

01 Design consultation

We provide a complimentary on-site consultation to explore your garden’s variables, including its intended use, the feelings you want it to evoke, and your maintenance preferences.

02 Survey & Analysis

Depending on the garden’s size, we will measure it ourselves or recommend a trusted surveyor. We will also conduct a detailed site analysis of existing structures, trees, plants, and sun/shade areas for the design.

03 Concept Plan and Moodboards

We will provide two sketched concept plans that will show different layout ideas for discussion. Along with mood boards that will help you visualise the style of garden, planting and materials we intend to use.

04 Layout Plan

A detailed drawing of the agreed concept plan will be created, enabling you to fully visualise your garden and provide a landscaper with the necessary information to accurately price and build the garden.

05 Plants

A planting plan with a supported photographic mood board will be presented, giving you a clear idea of what your plating scheme will look like. Attention will be given to selecting a range of trees, shrubs and perennials to provide year-round interest.

06 Construction

Once you have chosen a recommended landscaper and construction starts, we will coordinate with them to ensure the project aligns with the final design. Once complete, we’ll be on-site to do the planting and discuss a maintenance schedule.

LOCATION

UCKFIELD, SUSSEX

Lush tropical raised bed separating elevated decking from a patio area, created using an exotic planting scheme including large leafed Muso basjoo & Ensete ventricosum bananas, Tetrapanax rex and Dicksonia antarctica tree ferns. The perfect backdrop for entertaining guests or relaxing alfresco.

Bespoke garden design for three new connecting gardens, to meet the needs of a multi-generational family, invoking an exotic journey through form, colour and texture. Features include a Japanese inspired Zen Garden with sauna & plunge pool, plus a large outdoor kitchen and eating area with bespoke pergola.

MEDITERRANEAN GRAVEL GARDEN

LOCATION

LEWES, SUSSEX

A semi-formal Mediterranean terrace and south-facing gravel garden separated by three Cupressus sempervirens, Italian Cypress and Olive trees. Central rustic seating area enabling the client to enjoy that morning coffee and take in the contrasting textures and colours of the drought tolerant planting scheme.

ARCHITECTURAL PLANTING DESIGN

LOCATION

DORKING, SURREY

Two planting plans created for separate borders offering year-round interest. The first uses rhythmic planting of Taxus bacatta’s evergreen architectural spires as a contrast against the Fagus sylvactica beech hedge that turns golden in winter. The second utilises the red winter stems of Cornus sanguinea “Midwinter Fire” to contrast against the white bark of a multi-stemmed silver birch, Betula jaquemontii.

ABOUT US

Karl Hammond spent 20 years working as an illustrator and creative director in the animation industry, delivering projects for clients including Facebook, Samsung and Spotify. He decided to combine his creative flare with his passion for architectural plants and garden design, graduating with a distinction from the world-renowned English Gardening School in Chelsea.
Situated in the heart of Sussex, surrounded by the beautiful South-Downs, Karl formed Arbor & Fern, and now makes it his mission to offer his clients a little piece of paradise in their own garden just outside their door.
